The Old Rule Of An Oil Change Every 3,000 Miles Has Changed

For the longest time, we were all told that an oil change every 3,000 miles was mandatory to maintain the life of your vehicle's engine. Well, with all of the advancements that have been made in engines and engine oil over the years, this rule of thumb doesn't necessarily hold true any longer.

If you drive a more modern vehicle, then chances are it can go 5,000-7,500 miles between oil changes depending on the model that you drive. While there is nothing wrong with keeping fresh oil in your engine every 3,000 miles, it can be a bit overkill in today's modern engines. You certainly won't be hurting it by keeping up with that schedule, but you can save yourself some money by extending the time between oil changes.

If you are unsure as to what your auto manufacturer recommends for your vehicle, you can either check your user manual, or you can bring it into our service department here at Gillman Chevrolet Harlingen and get some advice from one of our service experts.
