The Safest Way to Jump Start Another Car

In order to safely jump start a car, follow these simple tips from the Gillman Chevrolet Harlingen service team. Bring the two vehicles nose-to-nose as close as possible. Place the positive end of one end of the jumper cables to the good battery, and the other positive end to the positive terminal on the dead battery.

Place the negative cable to the negative on the good battery, and the other end to a metal surface on the car. Start the operational car and wait two minutes while periodically revving the engine. Try to crank over the dead battery, and remember that it may take more than one try to get it working.

Once the car is started, remove the jumper cables in the opposite direction. Leave the car running for a few minutes before driving off. These tips to jump start a dead battery are brought to you by our auto service team. Come by so we can test the battery and replace if it is no longer holding a charge.
